Observations and reflections on traveling in a Roadtrek.
If dogs could drive... we would all go to the bay everyday.
We always travel with our two dogs since being able to take them was once of the reasons we bought our Roadtrek.
Kayla, our 22 lb. Miniature Australian Shepherd sits alert at the wheel. She knows over 200 commands but she can't figure out the GPS quite yet.
Paco is 12 lb. mixed breed. He's only a year old so we are hoping being on the road will mellow him and maybe he will not so worried all of the time. See those worry lines below!
The Seven Month "Big Trip" begins....
What we refer to as our Big Trip is a seven month road trip from California to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. After the first week the plan is drive 1 1/2 to 2 hour at most so we have lots of time to wander, walk, explore and take pictures. There are many places where we plan to stay longer such as Quebec and Prince Edward Island. We have a general idea of the route we want to take and only have reservations for holidays or at places that are popular. We are going to wing it more on this trip and park in so many campgrounds to keep the costs down. It gives us more flexibility and with the great phone apps and the computer I can have lots of help to make it easy.
A website called OvernightRVParking.com has maps with all the places that allow overnight parking with details such as lighting, security, slope, and who to contact for permission if needed. There are apps to help you find campground, nearest dumpsites, dog park, grocery store, hardware store, Trader Joe's.... you get the point. To help us be connected more easily electronically we have a cell phone booster (Wilson Sleek 4G-V Booster for Verizon) and an upgraded antenna so we can make my weak one bar on my phone into four full bars at times. I have a MiFi device from Verizon that will create a hot spot for up to ten devices. All of the devices have been set up to now work internationally!

Eastern Journey - These are some of the places we will see on our path to Newfoundland
This is the path we have plotted for our way home.
Driving to the Caribbean - the last leg of a trip that includes a drive from Florida to California in 2013.
The entire trip was for over 50 days and over 7,500 miles. We drove from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Florida Keys and back again in our Roadtrek 210. We had many good time and few challenges along the way, but that is what makes life an adventure. You may go to the blog link above or click here to see latest blog.

Next we have a trip planned to Santa Barbara!

Joshua Tree National Forrest
Great place to visit when it's not too hot or too cold. Best time to go according to the locals is November or March. It was incredibly beautiful.
I took 3,000 photos in just 10 days! I will have years worth of references for future paintings.

Magical night at Joshua Tree National Forest
The great rock are illuminated by the campfires at night as the sun set. You can see the glow from the sun at the horizon, the moon and the campfire light. It was quite a beautiful night.

Cast of Characters - Best of Friends
Paco is a bit shy, but once he's comfortable his true dominate side comes out and he actually pulls Kayla around the house by grabbing her collar or a mouth full of her hair. Kayla true to the temperament of the wise older dog lets Paco do his puppy antics. He's a year old now so that may change in the months ahead.
With those wrinkles on Paco's forehead it's difficult to tell what breed he is and we get a lot of questions. I may just want to spring for a Doggie DNA test. We were told he is part Chihuahua, but I don't think it is more than 30%. He has beautiful yellow green eyes. Kayla is a smart beautiful mini Australian Shepherd and when she was little her nickname was Puppy Perfection. She has cute freckles on the side of her nose you can't see in this photo.

I think that the dogs were a bit bored on this short trip to Sunset Beach. I hurt my foot earlier in the week stepping over a box. It was one of those things you know is a mistake before you complete the move. I didn't want to take hikes or walk on the sand which they love dearly. We promised .... next time!
I love the way that Kayla put her paw and head on Paco's back.
